GoDaddy has a service which allows you to create your own URL forwarding service.
That is, for general purposes, you could have 👻👻👻.ws
redirect to twitter,
while 👻👻👻.ws/special can go to a different url, maybe a special signup for an ad campaign.
The service is free to GoDaddy customers.
How to create a URL forwarder
-
Log into your Domain Control Panel.
You will need your GoDaddy credentials.
-
Select the domain you want to forward.
In the case of this example, we're using 👻👻👻.ws
-
Click "Manage DNS" at the bottom of the page.
-
Edit your A record for the @host
It should look like this:
Click save.
-
Add a TXT record with your customer ID. It should look like this:
... but with your real customer number.
-
When you're done, you should have two records which look like this:
... with your actual customer number there, of course.
-
Wait about fifteen minutes. DNS is cached -- that's what that TTL (Time to Live) number means.
-
Go to shortener.godaddy.com.
It will ask for your customer account.
-
Click the "Your Domain + Our Shortening Service" link at the bottom of the page.
-
Click "Add Domain"
-
Add your domain. You'll need to enter your domain name and where
you want it to redirect. In the example below, 👻👻👻.ws redirects to twitter.
When you're done, click "Add domain."
If at first, it doesn't succeed, be patient. Sometimes it can take up to an hour
for the DNS to update.
-
When you're done, it should look like this:
-
Try out your domain! It should forward!
